Statue of Mahishasura, the half human and half buffalo demon stands out with a cobra in one hand and a sword in the other hand. It is said that Mahishasura used to take different forms to cause harm to people and was killed by the Goddess Chamundeshwari.

With the Mahabaleshwara temple located on the hills, it is often referred to as Mahabaladri.
