1. Murudeshwar Temple and Lord Shiva Statue

The most attractive aspect of Murudeshwar is the massive statue of Lord Shiva, also known as statue of Sri Sarvacharya or Sri Anantha Drishti. Located 2 km away from the Murudeshwar railway station, it stands gloriously at a height of 123 feet. The statue becomes even more magnificent when direct sun rays fall on it.

It has been built next to the Murudeshwar Temple, which is another popular place to visit in the town. Surrounded by Arabian sea, this temple with a 20 storied gopuram is dedicated to Lord Shiva. From the top of the Raja gopura, which can be reached via a lift, devotees can have a view of the majestic Lord Shiva statue as well.

Behind the Murudeshwar temple complex, Murudeshwar Fort is located. It was built during the Vijayanagara dynasty and was later renovated by Tipu Sultan.

There are statues depicting the story from Shiva Purana, a religious Hindu scripture as well as from Mahabharata. Statues of Lord Krishna and Arjuna on a chariot and of Ravana giving the atma-linga to Lord Ganesha in the guise of shepherd boy are a few more interesting sculptures in the park. Entry to statue park is free and it is open throughout the day.

4. Idagunji Ganapathi Temple

Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this temple has an idol of Lord Ganesha in a rare standing position. The town of Idagunji is religiously quite significant as it has been mentioned in Skanda Purana as well. As per the legends, Lord Ganesha has stayed in this town.

Idagunji Ganapathi Temple timings are from 6 AM to 1 PM. The temple opens again at 3 PM till 8.30 PM.

Bhatkal has seen reigns of Cholas Dynasty, Vijayanagara Kings, Saluva (Jain) rulers as well as Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, eventually of the British empire. The reminiscence of these varying dynasties can be seen in this town.

The Solesvara Temple built by the Cholas is one the example of ancient monuments in this town. Along with Kethapayya Narayan temple, Bhatkal beach, with vast spread of shimmering sand and blue ocean water is a must visit too.

6. Apsara Konda Waterfalls
