1. Murudeshwar Temple and Lord Shiva Statue
The most attractive aspect of Murudeshwar is the massive statue of Lord Shiva, also known as statue of Sri Sarvacharya or Sri Anantha Drishti. Located 2 km away from the Murudeshwar railway station, it stands gloriously at a height of 123 feet. The statue becomes even more magnificent when direct sun rays fall on it.
It has been built next to the Murudeshwar Temple, which is another popular place to visit in the town. Surrounded by Arabian sea, this temple with a 20 storied gopuram is dedicated to Lord Shiva. From the top of the Raja gopura, which can be reached via a lift, devotees can have a view of the majestic Lord Shiva statue as well.
Behind the Murudeshwar temple complex, Murudeshwar Fort is located. It was built during the Vijayanagara dynasty and was later renovated by Tipu Sultan.
2. Murudeshwar Beach
Another popular place to visit in Murudeshwar is the Murudeshwar beach. Located beside the Murudeshwar temple, which is on the Kanduka Giri hill, this beach can be visited on your temple visit. It is around 2 km away from the railway station and can be reached by auto rickshaws which are readily available.
Murudeshwar Beach, nestled between hills, sea and coconut groves, is a popular picnic spot for locals and tourists alike. Although there are no water sports available, visitors can go for trek or long walks around the beach. The view of sunset from here is worth watching.
3. Statue Park
Another interesting place to see in Murudeshwar is the Statue Park. This park presents an amazing range of life size sculptures along the side of a pond and varied flowering plants. The most prominent statue of the Park is that of Lord Shiva where he is receiving Goddess River Ganga into his hair.
There are statues depicting the story from Shiva Purana, a religious Hindu scripture as well as from Mahabharata. Statues of Lord Krishna and Arjuna on a chariot and of Ravana giving the atma-linga to Lord Ganesha in the guise of shepherd boy are a few more interesting sculptures in the park. Entry to statue park is free and it is open throughout the day.
4. Idagunji Ganapathi Temple
Another temple that must be visited on a Murudeshwar tour is the Ganapati Temple which is located in Idagunji town. It is situated at a distance of around 17 km from Murudeshwar and can be reached within 15 minutes of time.
Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this temple has an idol of Lord Ganesha in a rare standing position. The town of Idagunji is religiously quite significant as it has been mentioned in Skanda Purana as well. As per the legends, Lord Ganesha has stayed in this town.
Idagunji Ganapathi Temple timings are from 6 AM to 1 PM. The temple opens again at 3 PM till 8.30 PM.
5. Bhatkal
Also known as Batecala, Bhatkal is a historical port town which is located on NH17, around 13 km away from Murudeshwar. A ride of not more than 20 minutes from Murudeshwar will take you to this beautiful town with mesmerising beach and many ancient temples and monuments.
Bhatkal has seen reigns of Cholas Dynasty, Vijayanagara Kings, Saluva (Jain) rulers as well as Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, eventually of the British empire. The reminiscence of these varying dynasties can be seen in this town.
The Solesvara Temple built by the Cholas is one the example of ancient monuments in this town. Along with Kethapayya Narayan temple, Bhatkal beach, with vast spread of shimmering sand and blue ocean water is a must visit too.
6. Apsara Konda Waterfalls
At a distance of 20 km from Murudeshwar, Apsara Konda Falls is undeniably an important part of every Murudeshwar tour package. With water cascading from a height of 10 km, this waterfall does create a scenery that will leave you spellbound.
The water falls into a pond which can be reached via steps, making it easier for tourists to reach the fall and have an enjoyable time. Visitors can be seen playing and swimming in the pond water, where water drips down through the roots of peepal tree.

Along with 89 varieties of corals one can also see parrot fish, eels, trigger fish, shrimps, etc. EVen white sharks have been spotted here by the divers.
8. Baindur or Byndoor

Falling from an impressive height of 300 feet, this waterfall can be reached through a trek of 3 km through forest from Chaktikal. 10. Koosalli Waterfalls
Another waterfall located near to Murudeshwar is Koosalli waterfalls. It is situated at a distance of around 45 kms. Cascading from a height of 380 feet this waterfall can be reached through a trek of approximately 5 km from Koosalli village. The trek is through dense forest and requires rock climbing as well, making it an ideal place to visit if you are looking for some adventure.
As there is no transportation or food stalls available near the waterfalls, tourists need to carry their own light snacks and water as well as arrange for return journey in advance.
11. Maravanthe Beach
Nestled between Arabian Sea and Souparnika River, Maravanthe is located 48 km away from Murudeshwar. On NH 17, towards Udupi, Maravanthe Beach is a peaceful, picturesque beach.
