1. Gohar Mahal

Gohar Mahal was the official residence of the first woman ruler (Begum) of Bhopal, Qudisiya Begum, who was also popularly known as Gohar Begum. She took control of the city of Bhopal after her husband passed away accidentally.

The Mahal is an old school charm which displays intricate artwork and takes inspiration from both Hindu & Muslim culture. The presence of various jharokhas (windows) and a courtyard in the middle of the palace gives it the perfect palace-like charm.

The palace is currently under ruins but is undergoing restoration which will definitely bring back the grandeur it truly deserves.

2. Shaukat Mahal

3. Moti Masjid

Also known as the Pearl Mosque, this 150-year-old mosque is a key historic landmark of Bhopal. It was built by the brave woman ruler of Bhopal, Sikander Jehan, daughter of Qudusiya Begum. Talking of its architecture, it draws a striking resemblance with Delhi’s Jama Masjid but is relatively smaller in size.

It sits on a raised platform which can be accessed via a few stairs. Its exterior is done using red stone and the main facade is constructed using shining white marble. It has two minarets on its sides which come with golden spikes.

4. Taj-ul-Masajid

Built by the Birla family in the 1960s, the Birla Mandir in Bhopal is dedicated to Goddess Laxmi and her male consort Lord Vishnu, also known as Lord Narayan. Hence, the temple is also known as Laxmi Narayan Mandir. Additionally, there are small shrines dedicated to Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

It is Nestled in the Arera hills and is spread across an area of 7.5 acres. It adopts a modern style of architecture and the temple complex is built using Yellow-Sand Coloured stone and is surrounded by huge lawns and gardens.  The temple also has various colourful fountains that one can see lit up in the evening.

The temple also provides a beautiful panoramic view of Bhopal which is a sight not to be missed.
