Attukal Bhagavathy temple popularly known as the Sabarimala of women is renowned for Attukal Pongala festival. This annual festival commences on Bharani day in Kumbhom (February – March) continues for nine days. During this festival women gather along the road to the temple for nearly 2 km and cook sweet pongal to offer the goddess. Pongala is an offering usually made in Bhagavathi temples.
