Here are some of the best tourist attractions to visit in one day near Pangong Lake on your sightseeing tour by private cab.

1. Chang La Pass

Chang La Pass, at 5,360 meters, is one of the world’s highest motorable roads, connecting Leh to Pangong Lake and serving as the gateway to Nubra Valley. Popular among bikers, this 15-km pass features mostly paved roads, accessible by any vehicle, and is open from mid-May to October. Guarded by the Indian Army due to its proximity to the Chinese border, the pass hosts the world’s highest research station, established by DRDO. It is steeped in serenity, and the Chang La Temple, dedicated to Changla Baba, adds to its spiritual charm. The stark beauty and high-altitude thrill at Chang La Pass make it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and adventurers.

Must See / Things to Do: Capture the beauty of the snow-draped peaks as you sip steaming beverages.

2. Tangtse

Tangtse is a peaceful village 40 km before Pangong Lake, located in the Durbuk Valley at an elevation of 4,000 meters. Once an important stop on the ancient Silk Route network of roads linking Asia and Europe, Tangtse retains an enduring beauty with its mud-brick houses, barley fields, friendly inhabitants, and sky-scraping hills filled with arid rock and demure patches of green.

It is a precious example of rural Ladakhi living, where change and progress have not yet found their way into the lifestyle of the Yarkandi people who have worked this land for centuries. The small village has a gompa flaunted with Tibetan prayer flags, and hot springs nearby. The tranquility of Tangtse and its historic identity open the door to the dreamscape of Ladakh.

Must See / Things to Do: Admire its vibrant murals, chat with locals to learn about their customs, and explore the hot springs for a soothing dip.

3. Pangong Lake

Pangong Tso is around 160 km from Leh, a high-altitude saltwater lake at 4,350 m elevation, stretching 134 km. The lake’s breathtaking turquoise, blue, and green water changes colors like magic in sunlight. You can admire the surreal spectacle against harsh and barren mountains.

Portrayed as the destination’s centerpiece in films like 3 Idiots, Pangong is a motivating destination for quiet contemplation. The peaceful lake surrounded by mountains offers endless opportunities for photographers and nature lovers.

Must See / Things to Do: Stroll along the lake’s pebbled shores, meditate by the water’s edge, and capture the lake’s changing colors.

4. Thiksey Monastery

Located 17 km from Leh, Thiksey Monastery is a 15th-century Gelugpa masterpiece perched on a hill, resembling Tibet’s Potala Palace. The 12-story complex houses vibrant murals, ancient Thangkas, and a 15-meter Maitreya Buddha statue, radiating serenity.

Overlooking the Indus Valley, its whitewashed walls and red-and-gold roofs gleam under the Ladakhi sun, offering panoramic views. Home to over 100 monks, Thiksey is a living center of Buddhist learning, with prayer ceremonies filling the air with chants and drumbeats. You can visit the on-site museum, showcasing rare artifacts, which adds historical depth.

Must See / Things to Do: Enjoy a spiritual experience and admire the monastery’s stunning architecture against the valley.
