Detailed Guide: Places to Visit with One Day Jaipur City Sightseeing Tour by Car
In our same day Jaipur local sightseeing trip you and your family will be visiting the following sites of interest :
The glorious City Palace of Jaipur is one of the most frequented tourist attractions of Jaipur and the first place to visit with our one day private trip. This famous palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh between the years 1729 to 1732.
The outer wall of the palace was built by Jai Singh II, but the palace itself has undergone several renovations and changes over the years, with some of them having been done as recently as in the 20th century.
The vast complex of the palace occupies one seventh of the walled city. The City Palace used to be the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur for all his courtly affairs. The palace is intricately planned with a special focus on division of the complex into a series of courtyards, buildings and gardens.
The architectural style of the City Palace is an amalgamation of the Shilpa Shastra along with Rajput, Mughal and European styles. The palace was built using red and pink sandstone and has three gates named ‘Tripolia Gate’, ‘Udai Pol’ and ‘Virendra Pol’.
The gorgeous courtyards, manicured lush green gardens, splendid edifices and meticulous stonework make City Palace a perfect blend of design, art, colour and culture.
- Must see \ Things to do: Pay special attention the the three gates and the carvings on them.
Hawa Mahal is a world famous architectural marvel that stands at the intersection of the main road of Badi Chaupad and in the busy market, having a private cab allows you to reach here easily. It has emerged as the signature landmark of this city and was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799.
Hawa Mahal derives its name from its unique structure, which is a mesh of small windows that brings cool winds into the palace and keeps the palace cool and comfortable during the harsh heat of the hot summer months. Hawa Mahal is built in the Rajput architectural style and has been constructed out of red and pink sandstone.
The Palace’s pyramidal structure resembles a crown, and is embellished with a myriad of tiny, intricately designed windows. The Hawa Mahal palace is a five floor storey building and each floor houses uniquely decorated chambers.
A beautifully crafted fountain welcomes you inside the main palace, which leads to the upper level floors via the ramp. There are no stairs in this building. The top floor of the palace offers a brilliant view of the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Sireh Deori Bazaar.
There is also a small museum in the campus which holds some rich relics and miniature paintings. You can buy some gorgeous souvenirs from the small shops near the Hawa Mahal.
- Must see \ Things to do: You can enjoy a few quiet, peaceful moments here, enjoying the view and the cool breeze.
Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is our next stop in this Jaipur one day local sightseeing tour, it is the largest stone astronomical observatory in the world. This ancient marvel is home to nineteen incredible instruments built out of stone and brass. This observatory took five years to be constructed and was built by Raja Sawai Jai Singh between 1727 and 1733.
This astonishingly accurate construction and placement of instruments allows a well-read observer to note the position of heavenly bodies with his naked eye alone. The main reason why this vast observatory was built was to study and gather information about space and time as was known back then.
The instruments here pertain to Egypt’s Ptolemaic astronomy and follow three classical celestial coordinates – horizon-zenith local system, the equatorial system and the ecliptic system – to track the positions of heavenly bodies.
This observatory is also the proud owner of the world’s largest sundial. These instruments still work as well and accurately as before and have seen no damage through the centuries.
Jantar Mantar is the perfect monument to witness the marvel of mathematical, scientific and engineering precision. Jaipur’s Jantar Mantar is also the largest one as compared to its other counterparts in the North of India. It is a must visit in this one day trip, especially for architecture and astronomy enthusiasts!
- Must see \ Things to do: The symmetrical and asymmetrical structures offer a unique opportunity for photographers!
Next up on our one day Jaipur sightseeing package, you will find Jaipur’s Birla Temple on the Moti Dungri Hill. This temple was built in the year 1988 by the Birlas. A structural wonder made out of white marble, the complex of the Birla Temple reflects ancient Hindu architectural styles and modern design.
The walls of the temple portray intricate carvings of Hindu gods and goddesses and texts from the Puranas and Upanishads. The pictures of historical achievers, legends, philosophers and spiritual saints like Socrates, Christ, Buddha, Confucius have also been put up in the temple.
The primary deity of worship, Laxmi Narayan is carved out from a single piece of stone. Birla Temple draws a large number of devotees during Janmashtami. It is a surreal experience, both for pilgrims and travellers as the temple transports you to a different world and age altogether.
- Must see \ Things to do: The idol of Ganesha is a must see as it appears almost transparent.
Albert Museum Hall is famed as the oldest museum of Rajasthan. This beautiful museum borrows its name from the Prince of Wales, Albert Edward. The building is better known for its nighttime view when the entire building is lit up with bright yellow lights that glow in the evening and magnify the regal aura of the monument.
The galleries of the museum have a splendid collection of precious antiques and artefacts that include ancient coins, marble art, pottery and carpets. For all art and history lovers, this place is nothing less than heaven!
- Must see \ Things to do: Look up and you’ll see its Indo – Saracenic inspired domes and intricately carved arches that have been constructed from sandstone.
Jal Mahal is a slightly lesser known monument of Jaipur and it is located some 7 KM from the city center in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake so reaching here can be expensive unless you have a private rental cab. This low rise symmetrical Palace used to be the shooting lodge for the Maharajas.
Today it draws a significant number of photography enthusiasts and tourists who just want to relax by the banks of the lake. The palace is a blend of the Mughal and Rajput style of architecture. Entry inside the fort is prohibited, but you can appreciate the architecture of the fort from outside too.
- Must see \ Things to do: In the evenings, the area is lit up and the palace lights are reflected in the lake, making it a magical and romantic view.
Amber Fort looms over the city of Jaipur and is located on top of the Aravali Hill, across the Maotha Lake. A living relic of the grand Mewari the past, the fort pulls in over five thousand tourists daily. Amber Fort is constructed in pink and yellow sandstone and is a part of an extensive complex, built by Maharaja Man Singh in the 16th century.
Amer is a small town of as little as four square kilometres, but it once served as the capital city of Rajasthan. Tourists opt to take an elephant ride back to the fort or you can also walk all the way up.
Amber Fort is divided into four sections and each one of them is adorned with its separate entrance and courtyard that encloses several palaces in its complex.
- Must see \ Things to do: A fifty minute long light and sound show that is held every evening at the Amber Fort – it is an excellent way to know more about the fort’s history.
Surya Mandir of Jaipur is a part of the larger temple of Galta Ji. This temple is located in western region of the city. This temple was founded in the 18th century and served as the private temple for a courtier of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II.
The temple’s greatest attraction is its elevation of 200 meters above the city, which brings with itself wonderful panoramic views, that are best viewed at sunset. The temple’s calm ambience, serene views and the pleasant short hike up the hill is an excellent way to get away from the hustle-bustle of the city for some spirituality and me-time.
- Must see \ Things to do: Don’t forget to click a stunning photograph of the temple against the vividly painted sky at sunset.
