1. Elephant’s Head Point

The site derives its name from the rock formations that resemble the trunk of an elephant. These unique rock formations attract many a curious visitors every year.

Elephant’s Point is also said to have derived its name from the former Governor of Bombay, Sir Mount Elphinstone. The site was brought to public knowledge in 1930 by Dr. Murray. He used to live in a mansion nearby. The mansion doesn’t exist anymore and in its place, stands a picnic shed.

The Elephant’s Head Point offers panoramic views of the majestic Pratapgarh Fort. The fort is flanked by Kova Valley and Savitri Valley on either side. You will also be able to spot the Sahyadri Range from here. The sandy isolation of the mountains further beautify the lush greenery of the site!

2. Arthur’s Seat

Arthur’s Seat is located at a distance of 13 KM from Mahabaleshwar. The short distance will be covered by your private rental cab. The most visited view point in Mahabaleshwar is also Arthur’s Seat. You’ll have to ascend to a height of 1340 metres to visit the site. The site is surrounded by Savitri Gorge and a dense green plateau on each side.

Arthur’s Seat has been named after Sir Arthur Mallet. Mallet was the first person to build a house in this area. From Arthur’s Seat, you could also attempt to distinguish the geological differences between the Konkan and the Deccan plateaus! Reaching the valley requires a short 30 mins trek from the parking area.

Apart from Arthur’s Seat Point, the other sites of interest located close by are Echo Point, Hunter Point, Tiger Spring Point, Window Point and Malcolm Point. Located a few steps down from Arthur’s Point is the window point. The source of the Savitri River is Tiger Spring. It is also often visited by tourists. Enjoy views of Mahabaleshwar Range such as Pratapgad, Koleshwar, Raireshwar, and Chandragad from Arthur’s Point.

  • Must See / Things Do:: Arthur Seat is famous for floating light objects. If you throw a light object such as a bottle cap towards the valley, it will bounce right back due to an elevated air pressure!

3. Panchgani

Venna Lake was built by Shri Appasaheb Maharaj in 1942. He used to be the ruler of Satara district.
Spread over a massive area of 28 acres, the lake displays grand natural beauty. You will also find pilgrims at this destination. Chhatrapati Pratap Singh Garden is located nearby and is also a must visit.

You can enjoy horse and pony rides at the lake. Eateries and restaurants near the lake serve lip-smacking Marathi food.

5. Mahabaleshwar Temple

Tourists flock in dozens to worship the 6 feet tall Shiva lingam of the temple. Only the tip of the lingam is visible while the rest is buried underground. Mahabaleshwar Temple has been styled in the Hemadant architectural style of South India.
