The falls were earlier known as Jessie Falls, in memory of a British officer’s wife.

To reach the falls, you will have to trek a short distance that will take you three stocky coffee bushes and aromatic spice plantations! 4. Omkareshwara Temple

The majestic Omkareshwara Temple was built in the year 1820 by Linga Rajendra II. The temple was built by Lingarajendra II in hopes of atoning for his sin for wrongfully sentencing a pious Brahmin to death. The Gothic, Islamic and Hindu style of building has captured the attention of architecture lovers for centuries.

The temple is adorned with spectacular paintings, the mantapa installed with a dome, the panchaloha windows and the Shiva linga. 5. Madikeri Fort

Madikeri Fort and Palace along with being the most important tourist spot in Madikeri is also a building that functions as government offices, Court and the district prison. Tipu Sultan rebuilt the fort in 1800s in granite. Originally the fort was built in mud by Mudduraja in the 17th century. Eventually, the fort was captured by the British in 1834.

The must-see attractions within the fort is the palace, Mahatma Gandhi Public Library, Maha Kote Ganesha temple, Clock Tower, Government Museum and the life-size statues of two elephants. There are also some viewpoints along the boundaries of Madikeri Fort.

6. Government Museum

The Old Anglican Church of the Madikeri Fort was converted into the Government Museum in the year 10970. The museum is a proud collector of several priceless antiques such coins, manuscripts, treasures of the Kodava royalty, bronze statues, wood sculptures, armaments and inscriptions. You can visit the museum every day from 9 AM to 7 PM, except on Mondays and public holidays.

7. Gaddige (Raja’s Tomb)

Gaddige or Raja’s Tomb is a regal structure built on a hilltop in Madikeri. Imitating the Indo – Saracenic style of architecture, Gaddige is a cluster of royal tombs of the Kodavas of Coorg. The main tombs at Gaddige are that of Chikkavirarajendra, Rudrappa, Dodda Veerajendara and his queen.

The palace is located only a kilometre away from Madikeri bus stand. The beautiful garden surrounding Gaddige is a great place for relaxation and evening strolls! This site will be of special interest to history and architecture lovers.

8. Raja’s Seat
