1. Shirdi Sai Baba Temple

Shri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple with One Day Shirdi Trip from Mumbai by Car

Shirdi Sai Baba Temple is a highly revered temple dedicated to Sai Baba. The popularity of the temple is indicated by the large number of devotees visiting it. An average of 25,000 people visit the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, with the number growing to 100,000 during religious festivals. A treasured location and the perfect place to visit on this same-day tour from Mumbai by private taxi.

The Shirdi Sai Baba temple is managed by the Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust. You can witness the godly statue of Sai Baba and the Samadhi within the temple is made of Italian marble. Draped in royal cloth, and crowned with a gold crown, the statue is adorned with fresh flower garlands. The temple is made of old stone bricks while both the inside and outside (cone) of the temple are gold-plated. Four Aartis are performed within the temple every day (depending on the time of day). You can attend the Sai Aarti and pay your respect to the saint. The prayer is done according to rituals and customs dating back to Baba’s lifetime.

Sai Baba’s palanquin procession travels from the Samadhi Mandir to Dwarkamai, then to Chavdi, and back to the Samadhi Mandir every Thursday. Devotees of all religions are invited to enjoy Darshan in the Samadhi Mandir and you can even attend the procession if you happen to travel on a Thursday. Free meals are also offered in the Prasadalaya, regardless of caste, creed, or religion. Housed within the mandir property, it is a huge hall with seating for 150 people.

  • Must See / Things to Do: Seek blessings of Sai Baba and taste the holy Prasad.
  • Timings: Open on all days of the week from 4:45 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Entry Fee: Free darshan through online booking

2. Dwarkamai

When Sai Baba came to Shirdi, Dwarkamai was an old mosque in disarray. Baba turned it into his abode and named it Dwarkamai, proving that there is only one God. Dwarkamai houses a picture of Sai Baba and a big Shila (stone tablet), on which Baba would regularly sit. It is a place not to be missed on this one-day tour by private cab.

Another notable feature of this mosque is the constant Dhuni (fire). It is believed to have been started by Baba and the ash from this Dhuni’s charred wood is considered heavenly and sacred. Devotees believe it has the power to heal any sickness or ailments. In another portion of Dwarkamai, you can witness a square stone bench where Baba bathed.

A grinding stone and a wooden basin called Kolamba, which Baba used to hold alms received from the community, are also present. Baba referred to Dwarkamai as his mother because he felt content and joyful while reclining here. You can get a peek into his life at this place and will be overtaken by Sai Baba’s pure spirit and his blessings. The extraordinary and overwhelming positive environment is so peaceful and calm that you may feel cleansed of all fears, doubts, and negativity.

3. Chavadi

Visit Chavadi with One Day Shirdi Trip from Mumbai by Cab

Chavadi, a village meeting place, would be your next stop on your one day Mumbai to Shirdi & Shani Shignapur tour by private cab. It is a prominent place and also an important stop on this one-day tour from Mumbai.

The Dwarkamai mosque in Shirdi, where Baba used to live, proved unsuitable for sheltering him during the monsoons. As a result, out of sheer love and care for Baba, his devotees forced him to leave the mosque and migrate to the Chavadi. Baba began spending alternate nights at the Chavadi soon after, and the place was sanctified by his presence and regular aarti offerings in his honor.

Sai Baba had many memorable moments in his final decade at Chavadi. The Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust bought the Chavadi after Baba’s Mahasamadhi and used it for book storage and pilgrim lodging until the late 1930s. The village offices have subsequently been moved, and the Chavadi is still available to the public as a shrine dedicated to Sai Baba.

It now has a painting of Sai Baba by Amabaram, a Navsari-based Gujarati artist. He made the painting after Sai Baba appeared in his dream once. The painting was brought to Chavadi by Shirdi residents.

  • Must See / Things to Do: Witness the treasured relics of Sai Baba.
  • Timings: Open on all days of the week from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • Entry Fee: Free

4. Shani Shignapur Temple

The Shri Shaneshwar Devasthan Shani Shingnapur is an open-air temple dedicated to Lord Shani. This pilgrim attraction is a must-see on this one day tour from Mumbai by taxi. The temple is remarkable as it lacks walls and a roof. Shani dev is worshiped as a five-foot-high self-emerging black stone. The deity is accompanied by a Trishula (trident) down one side and a Nandi (bull) figure on the other. In the front are miniature representations of Shiva and Hanuman.

The temple is thought to be a ‘Jagrut Devasthan’ or a living temple. Though no one knows for certain, it is thought that the Swayambhu Shaneshwara statue was discovered by shepherds from the then-local village. It is a dark stone thought to have existed from the beginning of the Kali Yuga. Villagers firmly believe in the power of the deity and state that Shani punishes anybody who attempts to steal.

The temple receives 30,000 to 45,000 visitors each day, which increases to roughly three lakh (three hundred thousand) on the auspicious day of Amavasya (the no moon day). Women are not permitted to worship Lord Shani in the Shani Shingnapur temple. As per the ancient customs of the temple, women are not permitted to ascend the steps or participate in rituals like pouring oil over the deity or praying to Lord Shani.

  • Must See / Things to Do: Seek blessings of Lord Shani.
  • Timings: Open on all days of the week and 24 hours, Maha Aarti timings are 4:30 AM and 6:30 PM
